Don't get 2.5.x. It's the developer kernel.

2.6.x has a better scheduler, that may improve performance.

you have to upgrade some important packages. And not everything runs
"out of the box". If you want a stable system and don't live on the
bleeding edge, wait.

Yes. I would suggest to wait for at least 2.6.4, or until SuSE puts it
into the next release.
