Aus MySQL ausgesperrt

Moin,

in meiner grenzenlosen Weisheit habe ich mich irgendwie aus MySQL
ausgesperrt. Mit Postgresql habe ich auch irgendeinen Bullshit verzapft.
Kümmern wir uns jedoch zunächst um MySQL:

Um mein Problem (ich kann mich nicht mehr als root einloggen) zu lösen habe
ich MySQL gestoppt, deinstalliert, /var/lib/mysql verschoben und wieder
installiert.

Dann versuche ich root ein pw zu verpassen. Aber nix is!

Irgendwo muss sich noch etwas befinden das zu entfernen ist, bevor ich MySQL
neu installiere und starte. Aber was?

Hat jemand eine Idee?
