Cookie Cutter steps to install Kernel 2.6.x

All,

I'm looking for a step by step set of instructions to install 2.6 on SuSE
SuSE 9.0 desktop. Specifically from the pre stages (make mrproper) through
the configuration of Grub. I've followed the README within the source and
always seem to hose the steps for configuring grub or copying over bzImage
to /boot.
