For what it's worth, my Asus motherboard has this NIC on-board and it
works fine with SuSE 8.2 Pro/kernel 2.4.20 but ONLY after I'd added
acpi=off as a kernel boot parameter. Until then the NIC was deaf & dumb
to all traffic ("link down" messages logged here too), despite being
correctly detected and set up during installation.
SuSE 9.0 PRo worked on the same hardware right out the box with no
problems, and both installations used the default bcm5700 module provided
with the distribution.
