Hi

Have Suse 8.2, used to run 7.3.

Can vouch for Thunderbird, Opera and Mozilla working fine on Linux.

I have never tried to read my hotmail account via any of these browsers.
You will need to find and install gaim (or some similar package) to use
Messenger. Access to other MSN sites seems fine unless you want to use
MSN's community chat rooms or public chat rooms, in which case you need
to hunt out something called amsn (iirc).

Please note that a lot of web sites work well with MSN, which has it's own
non-standard Java engine on XP. IE is also tolerant of poor HTML code.
You may notice some sites don't work with Mozilla; mostly because they've
been writen very poorly with non-standard HTML in them that only IE can
interpret. In such cases try Opera.

I used to have XP and Linux on dual boot but now run Linux only.
I don't use Open Office so can't comment on it.

One reason ISP's do not support Linux is the number of different versions
and different ways of doing things depending on what distro and what windows
manager you are using. Gnome and KDE are only two well known window managers
tailored to the masses as an easy intro from Windows environmenrs.
If you ever get a bit braver, try enlightenment.

What will you be using instead of your modem to make the connection? Does the
deal you are going for provide the hardware or are you buying that separately?

HTH
