My card is the ATI 128 Pro AIW AGP, 32 MBs ram, and 3D can't be enabled
easily in SuSE 9.0. And from the posts, many others are having the same
problem with ATI cards.
However, on the same hard drive in the same machine, SuSE 8.1 handles
TuxRacer with no problem. The game has always worked flawlessly.
As well on the same hard drive, on the same machine, Mandrake 9.1 handled
TuxRacer from the get-go.
One other thing I should add. SuSE has always installed easily on this
machine, at least on my two previous installs with 7.3 and 8.1. My 9.0
install was hard work, with the loss of my keyboard ending my first
attempt, and a freeze interrupting my second, which I got through. After
the install I had to work on my keyboard and finally to change manually
the config files because it kept going back to the German keyboard from
the US one.
And finally I couldn't get SaX2 to enable 3D, even though it said it was
enabled.
My Gannie always said, "Never install *.0 software honey. You'll regret
it." And maybe that's the problem.
It's not my intention to be critical of SuSE, which is a great
distribution. But the problem may just be that the 9.0 release isn't quite
as good as it should be. I comment on this because I see the blame for the
problem often being placed elsewhere in the posts. The problem may just
"disappear" with 9.1.
Buster, who really likes SuSE
