I'm running 8.2 professional. I did an online update recently and was
not able to reboot afterwards. I got a kernel Panic "Bad EIP Value"
after some reiser errors like 'reiserfs_do_truncate wrong result'. I
was however able to boot into the systen via run level 5 with the
installation disk. There I noticed lots of errors like:
can't open /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB/modules.dep - no file or directory
There is now a dir called 2.4.20-64GB-SMP with modules.dep. I do have
a SMP machine.
I tried removing the kernel and replacing it with the one of the
install disk. It hangs at %70, zombies and takes 99% of processor
(dual 450). I copied the name of the rpm and the command yast gave,
rebooted and tried to install by hand. That climbed to 70% in the
shell, and then hung. I let it hang for about 1 1/2 hours, then gave
up.
Any ideas?
