Here are some pointers to information on how to get the VIA 6410
controller semi-working under Linux.

Looks like you have to install from a drive on the standard IDE
controller, patch the kernel and then move it over to the RAID
controller.
Note, this will only allow the RAID controller to function as a normal
IDE controller.
IOW, you can't use the hardware RAID functions.
Another solution is to purchase a Promise Fastrack controller and use
that instead.
I don't know if the 2.6 kernel supports the VIA 6410 chipset natively.
