Ok, I gave up on getting a working driver for my s3/via savage 8 ddr-k
chipset. I just read too many posts saying it's an inadequate video
driver anyway, so no love lost.
I bought a Radeon ATI 9200 based on the recommendation of a gamer friend.
According to the mb docs, the video can be set to onboard, pci or agp in the
BIOS. The Radeon is AGP.
Ok, here's the question:
In the ATI manual, which only covers Windos, of course, it says:
(1)
You must "install AGP dirvers for non-Intel Chipset Based Motherboards".
(2)
Then it says, "to ensure successful installation of your ATI graphics
Accelerator card, you must uninstall the graphic drivers for the existing
graphics card".
Do you think I need to do either (1) or (2) for Suse Linux or will it just
understand and reconfigure on boot ?
