Bob - I tried to do just what you said, and all commands worked fine.
However, I have now blown the system completely!

It will not boot.

It seemingly is hung after showing several sequential error messages:

MOUNT RETURNED NON-ZERO EXIT STATUS
PIDOF [####]: /PROC NOT MOUNTED, FAILED TO MOUNT.

(the last #### was 1428 if that means anything)

So I guess I now have to reinstall SUSE and start all over?
I'll wait an hour or so for anything you might have to say.
