Video display problem on an IBM ThinkPad (A22m)

Both the KNOPPIX and PHLAK bootable CD distributions displays the desktop
correctly. But on a fresh install of SUSE 9 Professional, the video image is
wrapped (top to button) about 1.5 inches. Its as if some one pushed the
display up and it scrolled off the top and back on to the bottom of the
screen.

On most of the desktop, you click what's under the mouse, but other parts,
such as the close "X" button, you have to click where the object is suppose
to be ( about 1.5 inches below where it is).

I've found on other post of this problem but no solutions.
