No 32-bit drivers will work on AMD64, no matter what the OS. I have
mandrake 64 installed but can only get 800x600 resolution and that's
using the frame buffer driver. There are no 64-bit ATI Radeon drivers
that I can find even though I read somewhere there was Radeon support
for SuSe64. I'm guessing if that's true then it must be in the kernel,
same as with WinXP64. The only 64-bit Radeon drivers released by ATI are
internal to Win XP64 beta so if there is one for SuSe it must be third
party or in the kernel.
AMD64 is capable of executing 64-bit and 32-bit software code
simultaneously, just not driver code. All drivers must be 64-bit.
Mandrake64 has no 64-bit ATI support yet so I'm hunting for a distro
that does. I'm not a gamer so I don't need full support but I would
like to be able to get 1280x1024x24/32 with some acceleration.
I just thought I'd ask around before downloading 9 gigs of SuSe.
