!!!! HELP !!!!! Installed NUT (ups) now I can't boot up or get in!!

Don't bash me for using a winblows box to post, I had no choice!

I installed the NUT drivers for my UPS and now it instantly powers down when
I power up and I can't get the damn driver removed.

I've googled around and built a half dozen cables and none of them work.

My UPS is a Compaq rack mount R3000 which is really a Powerware 5119
Like I said, I tried many cables and none of them work, now I just need to
disable
the driver so I can boot..

I set the ups type in /etc/ups/ups.conf (I think that was it, now I can't
remember, my brain is numb)

Anyway, when I power up everything goes good until it hits the NUT driver
which does NOT see the UPS on ttyS0 and then shutsdown the system. I can
not get around this.

I tried booting Knoppix and I can get to the file I need to edit but it
won't let me edit it, it's locked in as read only..

HELP!!!
