Hi,
I used to connect to my fileserver which runs on 9.0 either from XP
machines or other SuSE 9.0 machines. Clicked on the icon on KDE
desktop, was asked for login / password and it worked just as with
NFS.
Since I updated to 9.1 on one of the client machines, I cannot find
any smb:/ anymore. When I connected via NFS everything seemed normal,
but suddenly the directory I worked behaved strange:
>From the other clients (which run either XP or 9.0) strange errors
occur in this pparticular directory. Although I checked the rights /
groups / users it seems normal, but it isn't. Sometimes clients cannot
connect to the mySQL server anymore if they do it from a fil in that
directory. Even if a new file is created it does not work.
But if a new directory is created from a XP client via Samba,
everything works normal as it did before.
I assume it has something to do with UTF-8. Can I just convert all
directories on the server to UTF-8 from ISO ?
Or will this kill my Samba settings (ver. 2.2 on the 9.0 server)
entirely?
Another approach might be the IP6 ? Could this also be a reason for
it?
sorry for this lengthy, not very precise descriptions but it shocked
me! This server/cleint combination worked flawlessly for many, many
months and the data disk with all the files on it went with all
updates since 7.1 without any problems. (Yes, I am a whimp. Did dailiy
backups. I'm not like Linus :)
best,
