Spyware in Linux is really, really seldom because most software in Linux is
open source. And with hundreds of Coders watching the development of
programs it would be very difficult to sneak in some code that does spying.
The Realplayer which was mentioned in a posting above however is a
commercial, closed source program. I furthermore do not know, if the
allegations against Realplayer are based on facts. Yes, Realplayer might be
communicating with real.com, but your webbrowser also sends cookies to
websites... Nevertheless I use xine as a replacement for Realplayer. :^)
And the spyware that is common on Windows systems cannot run on Linux
systems because of binary incompatibilities. Just like you cannot run any
Windows applications on Linux without some sort of emulation layer.
