Sound like KDE crashes when it starts with your settings. Did you change
version?
Try renaming the KDE config directory in your home directory to something
else and then logging in (to rename:
"mv /home/YOU/.kde /home/YOU/.kde_old"). This will reset all your settings
to defaults, but you can copy configuration files back from the saved
version (files in .kde/share/config)
