Some progress. I remembered what I did to make the sound stop. The
problem seems to be that the card's digital output will not work. The
analog one will.

I had both in originally. But I remember distinctly that it still
worked after I unplugged the analog output.

So the question is now how one can get the digital output to work with
the audigy.
