How have you set the nic up in the Suse machine?

Have you tried giving your nic a static address in the 192.168.1.???
range ( where ??? = anything above 2 as the Binatone modem uses
192.168.1.2 by default ) this is setup in Yast>Network devices>network
card, that is if you have disabled DHCP in the modem?

You will need to set the default gateway which will be the internal ip
address of the modem, the DNS addresses of your ISP

If this is not clear then just holler back, I have got to go out for a
while but someone might chip in with a more understandable answer :)
