The different connection I have made always pointed me to the correct
country and therefore the correct timezone, especially because I have
only tested this in Belgium.
Because I was not sure, I asked if it were too farfetched. There are
things like http://www.geobytes.com and
http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp
More explanations can be found on http://www.private.org.il/IP2geo.html
Well, you get the idea. It is apperently possible to locate what area
you are in. Some mistakes will be made, especialy if you have a provider
who has *.*.*.0/8 in Hawaii and the rest in New York.
However the few tests I did with http://www.ip2location.com/free.asp
gave me cities, states and countries. It is my believe that that is
close enough for timezone guessing.
On that page you can buy a M$ program. There are other programs as well
for Linux.
http://www.phpclasses.org/mirrors.html?page=%2Fbrowse%2Fpackage%2F514.html
is one, I guess.
So the fact that there are different timezones in a country or with a
provider is unimportand, it seems.
