The 5.1 works fine on 9.1, the volume setup is the most problematical
getting them right can be an art if you have not set one up before you
are offered a multitude of sliders and switches which can take a while
to get the balance of front, rear, center and booster speakers right
for the different types of input/output, but once it is right it is ok.

alsamixergui is one of the best apps for the adjustment in this case
( well for me that is )
