lpd Fatal error

Suse 9.0 with printer and files shared.

CUPS used to work OK from localhost, but I could not print from Windows
clients through Samba. Just to confirm that troubles come from Cups and not
from Samba, I switched to LPR (uninstalling cups packets that conflict with
LPR), But on reconfiguring printer, Yast was unable to start lpdfilter.
Trying manually with:

        "rclpd start"

I got:

"Starting lpdFatal error - Cannot bind to lpd port 'printer'
startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/sbin/lpd: 1
failed"

I would appreciated any advice.
