On another group I received this suggestion when my usb hub was not
reognized.
In your bios make sure that you have legacy or dos support unselected
> for USB.

In my bios the only reference I could find was Legacy audio and I
disabled that option and now my usb hub works. I can see my printer
whereas I could not see the printer until I plugged it into the
computer usb port. I hope this might help.
