You are kidding, aren't you? $109 for an OS that can be bought for $80 off
the shelf at Best Buy? (laughing hysterically at your stupidity!)

So, if you installed WindowsXP on a Mac, it should work, right? Of course,
it wouldn't. Linux doesn't work with unsupported hardware anymore than
Windows does. Install it on supported hardware, and you'll understand our
fanaticism.

You must have used SuSE 9.0, as 9.1 fully supports SATA, and probably more
hardware on your board. This makes me laugh even harder, as you not only
paid too much for your distro, you got an already dated distro to boot!
XP, right out of the box, shouldn't support much, if any hardware on this
board, as it was introduced _AFTER_ XP was launched. Therefore, 3rd party
drivers are supporting the hardware, and if those companies aren't
supporting Linux, blame them for their lack of support, not Linux. It's the
hardware manufacturers' job to support the OS, not the other way around...

Again, out of the box, it didn't. You made it support it by adding drivers
from 3rd party sources. So, therefore, XP _DID_NOT_ support your
motherboard...
For what it's worth, I spent 2 hours doing a clean install of SuSE 9.1 when
it came, followed by another 1/2 hour to get my icons on my desktop, set my
screensaver and background, and get my panel configured the way I like it.
I also did a few other things too, all from a GUI, and I had my system back
in order. That's all drivers, and all software. In contrast, I spent about
an entire week installing XP, drivers, software, and configuring and
troubleshooting.
These are some of the daily/weekly things I do in XP that I don't do in
Linux:
1.) Update virus definitions.
2.) Update spyware/adware definitions.
3.) Run Ad Aware and Spybot.
4.) Run Windows update.
5.) Defrag my hard drive.
6.) Reboot to cure some anomaly.
7.) Do a physical virus scan.
8.) Run chkdisk to check the entegrity of my HDD.
9.) Check my list of services to determine what service is slowing my
machine down and shut it off.
What I do have to do on a weekly basis in Linux:
1.) 'apt-get update'
2.) 'apt-get upgrade'
All of my software, kernel, drivers, and everything are updated in 2 simple
commands. No defragging. No spyware/adware/malware. No viruses. No worms.
No trojans. No registry!
So, go ahead and continue to use your beloved XP. I'm laughing all the way
at your ignorance...
You remind me of a guy that once visited the Jeep newsgroup that bought a
Jeep Liberty (a running joke to off-roaders), and let the salesman talk him
into putting every little POS add-on in DC's (DaimlerChrysler) inventory so
he could prepare it for 'serious rock crawling'. Mind you, it had no lift,
and stock tires/rims. The first time he took it over rocks, it ripped his
exhaust clean off and did considerable damage to the bottom side of his new
toy. For all we know, it could have just been that he tried to straddle a
rock he couldn't clear, so his driving was the problem. Then...he had the
audacity to go into the Jeep newsgroup and proclaim that Jeeps are junk and
are not near as trailworthy as they claim. Because HE was uneducated and
gullible, he blamed DC and Jeep. By the time they finished flaming him,
they had to baste him with KC Masterpiece.
You're claims are just as uneducated and ignorant!
-- The manual said to install Windows 2000 or better... So I installed SuSE Linux 9.1!
