I have two machines with Suse 9.1, after yesterdays kernel upgrade one boots
fine and the other hangs when then kernel is loaded.
The machine that hangs is a AMD Athlon barton 2500+ with SIS 746 FX chipset,
1 GB (333 MHz) RAM, 120 GB and 80 GB Parallel ATA Maxtor disks. The boot
disk is the 120 GB one. I have Suse 8.2 also installed on this machine, and
it still boots beatifully, no problems, so the hang seems to do with 2.6.x
kernel.
The machine that survived the kernel update, and still boots, is a Intel
celeron 1 GHz, with Intel BX chipset, 768 Mhz (133 MHz) RAM, 30 GB parallel
ATA samsung harddisk.
This is the point in time when I turn off automatic updates, I have had it
on so far with no problems. It isn't such a great idea after all, is it :)
The hang seems to have something to do with Athlon processors ?
What hardware failed for you ?
