This is coming from your X server setup and it is saying that your monitor
doesnt have the capability to display the resolution you chose. Did you
click the 'Test' button when you did your install?
To fix it first look on the back of the monitor and copy down the mfgr and
model. These is usually also specifications for the vertical and
horizontal refresh rates the monitor supports but not always. Copy that
down also. Then, presuming that you can get to a text mode screen, run
sax2 and set the correct values. These values directly affect what
resolutions can be used.
I have personal experience: if you overdrive a monitor it will soon die.
In my case I had a minor explosion and then everything went black. So
youre lucky that the system detected an incorrect setting. Note: older
monitors cant respond to the system to tell it the info.
