Samba & LiveEval CD

I have been playing with the LiveEval 9.0 CD and like it very much. Can't
get Samba to work though. Samba Client correctly identifies my Windows LAN
Workgroup by name but when I try to save the settings I get an error
message in Yast which says "Cannot write settings to /etc/samba/smb.conf",
which is presumably because as "Linux User" I don't have permission to do
this or because the LiveEval version won't allow this anyway.
Since I am pretty new to Linux and totally new to SuSE, could someone let me
know whether this should work and if so how to go about doing it.
Although I am keen to use Linux I cannot forsake my Windows LAN at the
moment so Samba is about the most important part of the whole system!
Thanks
Bill
