apt-get & ftp.gwdg.de: connection timeout errors

Greetings.

I recently installed apt4rpm according to the instructions at
http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/. When I try to update the list of
packages, the first batch downloads fine, but all subsequent ones report
connection timeout errors (see below). Playing around manually with ftp,
it seems that the ftp.gwdg.de server doesn't permit back-to-back
connections; I have to wait a couple minutes between each FTP session
before I can connect again.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so, is there any way of
modifying apt-get's behaviour to pause between FTP connections?

Regards,
Tristan
