Let me get this straight - you have a system that is critical enough
to RAID, but you didn't have a a backup and you installed the latest
kernel without even waiting to see if there were trouble reports in
the newsgroups? You need to learn about system administration before
you'll be taken seriously, I suspect.
My mail and web server system - which has a software raid 0 under suse
9.1, is backed up every 12 hours and never EVER runs the very latest
kernel. The last outage I had that lasted more than 20 minutes was
several years ago. I follow the same practices at all of my client
sites. Average downtime anually is under an hour - at all of them.
Plan for problems - you won't be wasting your time.
