When this happens, it usually means you need to reinstall the nVidia driver.
No need to reinstall the whole distro.

You're better off having the official nVidia driver from the nVidia website
and installing it yourself. It's very simple. You just open a console and
type 'su' and enter your root password at the prompt. Next, type 'init 3'.
You may have to either hit 'f2' to get a prompt, or it may ask you to
relogin. Login as user, then 'su' again, if that happens. How, use the 'cd'
command to get to your directory where the nVidia driver is located. An
example would be 'cd Documents/Downloads'. Since you should alread be in
your home folder, you should just have to get to the subdirectory there.
Now, just type 'sh N<tab>' and the complete filename should come up. If you
have multiple versions of the same file, the tab thing may only partially
fill in the line. Then you must enter the next letter/number in the
filename and hit tab again. If it sits there, then you have more than one
file starting with 'N' and have to give a second letter then tab again.
Answer the questions, which is usually the default on most questions. When
all is done, type 'init 5' and it should launch your GUI and you'll either
be at KDM, or completely into KDE if you have the option to automatically
login set.

That's all it takes. Now, keep the driver on hand in case the driver doesn't
work again and you get into the same mess. This can occur after an update
of XFree86. Whenever the X server is updated, the nVidia drivers need to be
reinstalled. This may be the case with your installation. You probably did
a YOU update and it updated X for you and crashed your GUI.

The manual said to install Windows 2000 or better...
So I installed SuSE Linux 9.1!
