Hoping this is a repeat of others problems that I did not find
by scanning this and alt.l.s. If not a known problem I'll post details.
I'm using an eMachines T3265 (AMD 3200 XP cpu).
It has an integrated nVidia chipset that does everything,
video, sound, ethernet, usb, ...
nVidia has a driver set for SuSE 9.0 with the following version name:
NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.suse90.i586.rpm
There is also a later "0274" version but no SuSE specific rpm.
After a fresh install of 9.0 Pro, I can install the above rpm and
everything seems to work well (usb untested). But if I then install
recent patches from SuSE, the message says to reinstall the nVidia
drivers. Whether I simply reboot, remove and reinstall the rpm, or
simply reinstall the rpm, neither the sound, nor more importantly,
the ethernet interface function. The module "nvnet.o" will not
load due to unresolved symbols.
I've also tried to build a 0274 version from the source files at
nVidia but that also fails with unresolved symbols.
Anyone recognize this problem and know a resolution other than
"don't patch" :)
Do you need to know the specific unresolved symbols for further analysis?
TIA
