Not sure how it works, but I've just checked my PC and the same lines
reference /usr/src/packages/BUILD/kernel-default-2.6.5 (which doesn't
exist on my PC). This must refer to the build location so you can ignore
this.

That's promising. It could be configuration. You should have a file
called /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan-bus-usb. Post it here (delete
your WEP key first) and I'll compare it with mine. Might help if you also
post the output of iwconfig. Issue it as root and you'll include the
encryption settings also.
Also, when you installed, did you follow the instructions for "Firmware
Download from User Space" at http://at76c503a.berlios.de/fw_dl.html ?
I've never seen the 0.12 versions work with compiled-in firmware. I'm not
saying it doesn't work, just that I've never seen it.
