I must add my voice to the folks who are still having
trouble with mounting USB devices.
In my case the device is a Lexar Media 256K memory
stick.
I'm runnng SuSE 9.1 PRO, currently with hotplug enabled.
If I hotplug the Lexar, it takes a while for it to
be recognized. It is then mounted at
/media/usb-storage-H508262102080:0:0:0p1
(certainly not a user-friendly directory) but when
I try to access that directory the attempt hangs.
And, I note, the file system assigned to the device
is wrong. The actual file system is vfat.
If I boot with the device already plugged in, it is
recognized by coldplug, but the machine hangs on
boot. Checking the error messages during booting
(ALT-F10 shows them) shows that the hang occurs when
the system tries to access the Lexar and gets no
response. I don't know if this eventually times out;
I only waited about 5 minutes and nothing happened... ;-)
What I'd appreciate is hearing from folks who have
had this problem and found a solution for it.
