I'm likely to be plonked by still more of the regulars, but I'll go on record as agreeing
with you. Some here are very defensive, or argumentative, when certain subjects are
mentioned.
If we talk just about Linux, and ask for help in a reasonably mannered way, the regulars
will go out of their way to be helpful. They've not solved every problem I post, but
they've shown willingness to help, and devoted much more effort to helping me than I might
have reasonably expected. Also, even when they're not speaking directly to my problems,
I still have plenty to learn about Linux as they try to help other noobs lurking about.
But, say the words "Windows is better .." or "I don't like [this, something] about Linux"
and hackles are raised and gauntlets thrown down. Most of the time, it's just a public
plonking, which as usenet decorum goes is harmless to genuinely polite, but it's still a
bother that one cannot discuss both OSes in an objective, dispassionate, logical manner
here .. or anywhere, it would seem, online.
