The G550 is a totally different beast from the P series.
The P series uses the Parhelia core, and can not use generic mga drivers.
The P-series driver is nowhere near ready for inclusion with any Linux
distro, and development appears to have halted after a round of "augmenting
core strategies" (or whatever buzzword they used for layoffs and
reassignments). As it's a proprietary driver, there's not much we can do
except sending periodic emails to Matrox Sales, letting them know whenever
we choose another card instead of a Matrox due to the lack of drivers.
If more people did this every time they installed a new system, perhaps
Matrox would re-hire/re-assign people to work on Linux drivers. But people
tend to complain to tech support, which has no say or influence in this, and
then when finally arriving at a different manufacturer's card, forget all
about Matrox.
