Me too, I've used the tarball before on other machines and had the same
problems that have been mentioned in this thread, on Monday I tried to use
the SuSE RPM, and that had pretty much the same issues :-(

Done that, and as root, it worked...

Yep, repeated the procedure for a user, click on the icon, busy pointer for
~20 seconds, then returns to a normal cursor, no Firefox...
I then opened a shell and ran it, which is when I got the GTK error. Doing
the xhost bit and running Firefox a couple more times eventually got it
working...

Same here, once the initial problem with the GTK error is sorted out, it is
the best browser I've used.

Me too, but as I've had the problems with 0.9.x of Firebird loading from
TAR, I tried the RPM this time, for me unfortunately neither way has been
error free...
