Skimping on swap space is not advised, either. I have 384 MB RAM; WTH do I need
with
swap sapce? The reality is Linux will swap to disk no matter how much memory
you have.
The good news is, if you install more than one distro, they'll share the same
space.
 
Also, reality is that some things take longer in Linux, and some do not. Most
any command
on the command line is acted on instantly. GUI stuff takes longer, sometimes a
lot longer.
Gnome, I think, is better than KDE here.
