Oh good God!
I honestly thought I'd already tried it but then I recalled no echo when
booting from the "3" option in the bootloader either. So I tried it
"again" just to be sure. Sure enough, I logged in without a hiccup. Doh!
Doh! Doh! Do I need to change my name and hide under a rock?!
>From the very beginning, I have been awestruck by the astounding flexibility
build into Linux. It truly can be the everything OS for everyone
regardless of application. That said, it would seem my expectations of
what Linux can and can't do are still firmly limited by the arbitrary
simplicity of the Windows universe. "No echo".... Hmmm. Why didn't I
think of that?
While I haven't yet followed up on this, I have the sneaky suspicion this
had nothing to do with the update but rather the changing of security
settings from "default" to "networked workstation." *shakes head* I guess
there is a reason I never persued a career in investigative work. Doh!
Doh! Doh!
I really appreciate all your patience... ever single one of you. I must
seem retarded or spastic in comparison. The whole paradigm shift from
Windows to Linux is proving more challenging than I had originally thought.
It would seem I am still trying to bang a square Windows peg in a round
Linux whole.
Bad Dave.
