Before installing a dual boot system (as a newb) I have found:
- obviously - have an effective backup of your data (!) no joke.
- scandisk (error check & fix etc) thoroughly in win first.
- defrag win before going towards dual boot
- verify there is about (say) 6GB or more available spare on the drive
for suse
- during the suse install process it will suggest new partitions if
empty ones do not yet exist. It will reduce win partition sensibly if
there is only the one partition, and create partitions for suse
- if you create your own (empty) partition/s prior to installing (dual
boot) suse it will likely use it.
- you will have the opportunity to adjust its decisions before
committing etc if you have the inclination and experience to do so
- it is an advantage to accept online updates during the final part of
the install - (read and make decisions re any notes offered,
particularly any offered kernel update in the process of *new* install
of suse)
- I personally have found it an advantage to uncheck the user 'auto-
login' option. For me as newb I could not initially work out how to log
in to root fully (!) (I know now - logout, end session only)
Enjoy
