I found the answer so in case anyone else has this problem:
go to your kde settings - $HOME/.kde/share/config
find knotifyrc and edit the file directly. Apparently it is a bug with
the KDE Control Panel. Also for those ppl whose sound is crashing
(artsd) set the external player to "artsplay".
I had no idea there was this many noises!!!! lol
Sorry if everyone knows but I spent ages on this and wanted to share :)
Now if only I can get my desktop fixed up!
