How do I Change Native Resolution on Boot Display?

Suse 9.1 pro. Replaced my big tube monitor with a neat bigger flat
panel. Its native resolution is 1280x1024, and it is unforgiving of
anything else. When I boot, it simply bobs a notice around that the
current resolution is not supported. Once xstart fires off, I have a
nice display. The only resolution control that I can find is involved
with the xwindows system, not the basic boot display. X windows works
flawlessly using tweaking tools supplied with the package. The old
monitor let me hit F2 during boot and watch the progress, now that is
not an option.

Anyone know where I should be looking for this setting? I searched
this newsgroup back to last December, and Google, but no luck.

Thanks.
