|Anyone know where I should be looking for this setting? I searched
|this newsgroup back to last December, and Google, but no luck.
FWIW: Once the helpful folks here got me pointed in the right
direction, I found the solution. Searching the Suse database, they
tell how to kill the splash screen and among the data are the hex mode
numbers for the various resolutions and color depths. I found that
the number (0x31a) listed for 1280x1024 did not work, nor did any of
the numbers listed for the 1280x1024 resolution. With some trial and
error, found that the number for 1024x768 with 16 bits, worked
perfectly (0x317). Additionally, there was mention that for full
display, the default of splash=silent should be set to splash=verbose.
With those changes in the grub menu, everything I was missing is now
great.
With the X server running, the 0x31a setting works. Why not initially
remains a question to me, but nothing I need fixed.
