Are you sure it's waiting on the SCSI card?
My SATA controller (and I've seen posts for similar things with other SATA
controllers) has a *very* long timeout on boot when scanning for attached
devices - have you just left it alone for (say) 15 minutes to see what
happens?

If it *does* boot Ok, then you can tell the boot process to not bother
scanning for SATA drives that aren't connected.
(shout back for further details if it does eventually boot! ;)
