I also have the nVidia card, but from what I have read in the news groups,
ATi's support of Linux seems a bit hap-hazard compare to nVidia.

My experiences seem to be the same as yours (although I didn't have any
volume problems, either with the onboard sound or later the Audigy 2ZS -
Windows games stuttered and the sound broke down with the onboard sound).

I do dual boot. *but* I have two drives which plug into a removable bay, so
the Linux and Windows drives never see each other.

I am using S-ATA via the onboard Promise controller on my Asus A8V Deluxe
board and a friend is using S-ATA on his Asus K8V (recognised out the box,
no 3rd party drivers required). Can't however comment on the MSI board.

The amusing thing was Bill Gates made an announcement the day before I got
my machine about how easy Windows is to install, when I put the Windows CD
in, it barfed on the S-ATA, claiming that there were no hard drives
installed ;-)
