When you boot the CD, you should get a list of options, one of which
is to do an install. use the up and down arrows to select the proper
option. It sounds like you're selecting or defaulting to booting an
existing Linux system.
That is, of course, if you are booting from the correct CD in the
first place. Check that you aren't booting the LiveCD, which is
supposed to go to the desktop environment.
