cd and ls at the same time

Hello!
Whenever I change a directory I want to have an automatical listing of
all files in the "new" directory. In other words: I want to combine
the "cd" und the "ls" comand.
I tried to define an alias with both comands and failed! What's the
right sythax to combine two comands in my .alias-file? Can anybody
give me a hint?
