The box set has cds and dvds - you can choose what is convenient. The
manuals that come with Pro are excellent (my experience is with 9.1 Pro)
The box set contains hardcopy manuals, although they are available on
the CDs and also I believe as part of downloads.

The content of the downloads is apparently the same as in the box set.

There is a 9.1 Personal available as an ISO, and at least one 'live' CD
for trial from CD only I believe. The download for install of the pro
version for example - I did this with 9.0 and 9.1 - is via FTP directly
when installing. This is not the same as downloading ISO's and using CDs
burned subsequently. It is possible to download all the FTP stuff onto a
server (NFS network??) and then install via the network I believe. I was
totally a noob when I used FTP and am not much more experienced now (!)

However I am very glad to have the box set because as a noob, and
installing onto a number of (various and random) spare old PCs for
experience generally as well as a main daily use PC. I know it is a very
stable os, however, my noob fingers have been quite curious and have
several times got me into trouble. It has been very easy to reinstall in
the early days when I decided to, and lately, also it has been very easy
to install more of the many packages which are include in the CDs etc. I
am sure these are also available for download.

Be aware of course that the installation via download will happen at a
speed related to your download speed (and also the mirror machine).

With the current intensity of linux development, there will almost
certainly be updates available for download subsequent to install.

I know that for my own use (of 9.1) these were very important.

My own recommendation would be to get the box set. I did, although I
used FTP a few time first, to look at linux and suse first.
