Hi guys, after years of getting frustrated with my Windows netwrok (3 wired,
3 wireless users) 8-port DLS Router/hub/DHCP server and a netwroked Laserjet
Printer I decided that I was going to play with Linux. I know nothing about
Linux except that it is basically Unix (I know nothing about Unix either!).
So having seen a SuSE system running in the US I bought SuSE 9.2 and
installed it.
When I fire the system up into the KDE3.3 dektop I get an error message
entitled "Error KDesktop" with the following text "Could not start process
Unable to create io-slave: Klauncher says: Unknown protocol 'devices'."
I suspect this has some bearing on the fact that the computer (Pentium 3
256kbyte RAM 40 GByte disk) won't join my existing network. Can someone give
me some clues as to a) what is failing on startup, and b) where I look to
set up the network parameters.
Opinion so far: KDE standard desktop background is prettier than Win XP's
standard (you can tell I haven't got far with the system yet, can't you?)
Steve
