I bought an iRiver hard drive player specifically because I wanted to be
able to play Ogg Vorbis files.

I had previously owned an iPod. The iPod has a much nicer interface IMO,
but the Ogg Vorbis support and a couple of other things got me to convert
to the iRiver.

When I connect my iRiver to my PC, it acts just like a hard drive and I
can simply copy files as I like. (I've written some scripts because I like
to keep the iRiver synced to what's on the PC's hard drive, but that's
relatively trivial for the very reason that the iRiver behaves like any
hard drive.)

There is software to support connecting an iPod to a Linux PC, but since I
haven't really used my iPod in over a year, I don't know what the status
of that software is now.
