I think it is going to depend on your hardware, same as with 9.1 and all the
other forerunners. If you look back to when 9.1 was released, there were
similar posts, things not working etc. (especially sound cards not playing
and the IPv6 problems ISTR).

Each new release will have its teething problems and certain hardware will
cause problems. And what works for one won't work for another...

I've upgraded 3 of my machines to 9.2 from 9.1 so far. The server is still
on 9.1 for now, plus I've got a rush IIS/ASP job on at the moment, so most
of the machines have had their Linux disks swapped out and the Windows
drives are back in. Not much fun, but it pays the bills...

So far, the Athlon XP2100+ and Athlon 64 3500+ installed without any
noticeable problems, the NFS mounts were re-instated and everything seems
to be working. So far I haven't found a device which doesn't work - both
Asus Mobo's, both nVidia graphics, one original Audigy sound card, one
Audigy 2ZS, one geniune 3Com network card, one built in Marvel Gigabit, 1
Panasonic DVD-RAM drive, two LG DVD writers (+/-RW, DVD-RAM and CD-R/RW),
P-ATA disks and S-ATA disks...

The 1Ghz Pentium III Coppermine (SiS video, sound and LAN) laptop was
upgraded and for the first time since SuSE 8.0, the power management works
and it shuts itself off automatically and the battery indicators etc. work.

All my machine run TFT displays (17" 1280x1024 on the desktops and a 15"
1024x768) and the out of the box X.Org/KDE 3.3 set-up looks fantastic.
Fonts have been my one reservation with previous versions of SuSE. Some
people say SuSE/Linux's font rendering is superior to Windows, but I've
always seen (on my machines with TFT) that the SuSE desktops always look
"out of focus" compared with the sharp fonts under Windows. With a lot of
playing around, upgrading to X.Org, installing additional TTF fonts etc., I
managed to get what I consider a very good, crisp display under 9.1. The
default set-up under 9.2 looks at least as good!

At the end of the day, the decision on whether to upgrade from 9.1 should be
down to what 9.2 is going to give you over and above what your 9.1 gives
you. If everything works for you under 9.1 and you don't need the default
installs of KDE 3.3, Gnome 2.6 or X.Org (as examples; there are thousands
of other packages of course...), then there probably isn't enough to
warrant upgrading this time round.

If you want to play with the latest setup, then upgrade - although you could
upgrade your 9.1 fairly easily to the same or newer packages, they just
wouldn't be supported and you won't get automatic updates for them...

Me, I'm very happy with 9.2. It is the best out-of-the-box install I've seen
(SuSE user since 8.0 and I've tried Debian, Yoper, Gentoo and Fedora Core
2). But the server will probably stay on 9.1 for the time being - it works
fine and there is no reason to upset the balance of things.

*But* if you don't use exactly the same hardware as me (and mine is
reasonably varied, it isn't like I've rolled out an install across
identical machines), then your results may vary...
