Hawking HWPC54G WLAN adapter woes

Hi. I'm running SUSE 9.1 Personal on an old desktop and am trying to
install a PCI wireless network adapter (Hawking HWPC54G).

Having triple-checked that I have in fact installed the PCI card
correctly, I find that SUSEplugger recognizes that new hardware has
been installed and lists it as "available" but not configured.

I first attempted to configure it in YAST, but none of the modules I
had on hand worked.

I then found an (old?) rpm of the ndiswrapper module, and attempted to
load that and the windows driver (which I found on the installation CD
that came with the PCI card) that way, but no luck, either:
ndiswrapper installed the driver just fine, but warned me that the
hardware was NOT PRESENT.

The lights on the adapter itself blink when the computer is
powered-up, but thereafter they are dark--neither the TX/RX light nor
the LINK light shines.

Any ideas on how to get this to run? Failing that, does anybody know
of an 802.11b PCI card that works with SUSE 9.1 "out of the box"?

-Luigi

(*Note: I am *very* new to linux, so assume I know nothing. This is
certainly a learning experience.

**and I'm writing this on a borrowed computer/'net connection.
